3 Email Marketing Faux Pas
Chances are that whenever you check your email, many of your messages aren’t check-ins from your friends. Instead, the bulk of your inbox consists of email marketing messages. While productive for many businesses, there are some faux pas made when executing an email marketing plan that could set your company back.
Here are 3 common email marketing faux pas:
- Lacking Consistency: Sporadically sending out emails to your subscribers may frustrate them and then cause them to unsubscribe. Instead, implementing your email marketing on a schedule will allow your subscribers to anticipate the information which they will appreciate. You also want to be consistent with the content in your emails so that your subscribers will not only know when to expect your emails, but what they will be about.
- Over Communicating: Your subscribers follow you for a reason, but if you spam them with too many emails they will subsequently unsubscribe. Make an email marketing schedule and keep to it, but don’t over pack the schedule with too many emails. If you do, you risk having people become frustrated when their inbox is constantly full.
- Ignoring Design: This faux pas is an easy trap to fall into because the efficiency of using a generic template can be so tempting. By ignoring design you are losing individuality and brand identity. Custom templates allow you to showcase your business in a unique way and make it stand out from the rest of the emails people receive. Also, they are not too pricey and they can be reused time and time again.
Email marketing enables your business to interact with its customers efficiently and informatively. It does take some planning and effort in execution, but the faux pas I mentioned can easily be avoided. The payoff will be great when customers are exposed to your brand and see how great your company is!
