LinkedIn is a powerful tool to make connections and grow your business. Setting up a LinkedIn profile is a good first step, but there’s more you can do to increase exposure. LinkedIn groups are an underutilized feature of the social media site. With this in mind let’s take a look at some ways LinkedIn Groups can be used to help your business.

3 Tips to Use LinkedIn Groups for a Small Business

  1. Find Your Customers

Join the groups your customers frequent. Be careful, LinkedIn is pretty clear on what you can and cannot do in a group. Direct sales pitches are generally frowned upon. However, you can use a LinkedIn Group to engage your clientele.  You do this by creating content that matters to the group. This not only builds relationships but also boosts your credibility.

  1. Conduct Research

The interesting thing about LinkedIn is that the site allows you to poll group members. You can use a free poll with up to five questions to gain valuable insight from your LinkedIn Groups. Again, be careful about how you phrase the questions. Stay away from high pressure sales tactics. Simply ask for opinions and wait for feedback. The information you receive is a great way to test out the quality of new ideas and products.

Like other social media sites, LinkedIn allows for customer reviews. Don’t be afraid to ask the people in your LinkedIn Groups for recommendations. Simply send a group announcement asking for feedback. With any luck the reviews will be positive. If not, then you’ve got some work to do to improve your image. Either way, you have the necessary data to better understand your business.
