Real Business Owner: Dr. Carl Dimailig, Dimailig Specific Chiropractic
We interviewed real business owner, Dr. Carl Dimailig about his experiences starting his business. Here’s what he shared with us…
Q. What’s the name of your business?
Q. What business/industry are you in?
A. Health and Wellness
Q. What made you want to launch your own company?
A. Chiropractic is my passion. A life free from the dependence of medication (unless absolutely necessary) is a form of freedom everyone deserves. My profession is aimed at educating people on how to achieve and maintain a quality life.
Q. What was your biggest hurdle you discovered when launching your business?
A. I practice a specialized type of chiropractic. Overcoming the “Oh, I know what you do,” mentality when telling people I’m a chiropractor was a particular challenge.
Q. What was easier than you expected?
A. I didn’t expect it to be easy.
Q. Did you write a business plan? Why or why not?
A. Yes, it was part of the curriculum when studying to become a chiropractor.
Q. What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before starting your business?
A. How to make more responsible expenditures.
Q. What services would you highly recommend outsourcing?
A. Anything that you know you will mess up. I use professionally made instructional videos on YouTube and a documentary on DVD that explain my specialty instead of making my own. I also outsource online appointment booking.
Q. What tasks do you think every business owner should do for themselves?
A. Define your product or service clearly, so that others know what to expect.
Q. Which books did you found helpful while getting started? Why?
A. Managing by Statistics. It teaches you how to measure progress and make the appropriate changes.
Q. What piece of advice would you like share with someone looking to start a business today?
A. Ask yourself, “If money weren’t an issue, would you still want to do this?” If the answer is yes, then you’re in the right business.Written by Melissa Shimmin
