A. Persnickety Painters

A. Painting Contractor

Q. What made you want to launch your own company?

A. I am unemployable.

Q. What was your biggest hurdle you discovered when launching your business?

A. Finding the right employees.

Q. What was easier than you expected?

A. Finding the right employees. Once I tapped into the right pool, it became a breeze.

Q. Did you write a business plan? Why or why not?

A. No. Laziness.

Q. What’s the one thing you wish you’d known before starting your business?

A. How to estimate, a vital part of the painting business.

Q. What services would you highly recommend outsourcing?

A. Bookkeeping, HR.

Q. What tasks do you think every business owner should do for themselves?

A. Accounting.

Q. Which books did you find helpful while getting started? Why?

A.The How-To-Do-It Encyclopedia of Painting and Wallcovering. It was just a great reference for confirming my process and answering questions.

Q. What online resources did you find helpful when launching your small business?

A. Thousands. Product websites for specific answers and research, Peer websites for how-to questions, Government websites for regulations. It is amazing that the answer to so many questions is now right at your fingertips. Remember when it wasn’t that way?

Q. What piece of advice would you like share with someone looking to start a business today?

A. Raise or set aside enough capital to get you through lean times without borrowing.
