WordPress Themes vs. Templates

At 321Launch.biz we refer to the look and feel of your site as a template, because that’s the language that most people who are new to WordPress understand.

But WordPress calls the look and feel of your website your Theme. Themes determine the color scheme, layout, and possibly the header image used with your site.

Not all themes are created equal. Some themes are highly editable. And some are rather static. The WordPress Twenty Ten theme is a highly editable theme. We use it as the basis of nearly all our themes.

WordPress also uses templates. Templates change the layout of some pages within the theme. For example, with the Twenty Ten theme, you get two templates – the standard two column template, and an additional one column template.
